February 11, 2014, St. Augustine, FL — On Tuesday, February11, 2014, ICAEW and Tomorrow’s Company launched Hazel Henderson’s publication ‘Mapping the Global Transition to the Solar Age: From “Economism” to Earth Systems Science‘, at the Chartered Accountants’ Hall, Moorgate Place, London.
The world is facing growing significant challenges which are unique in their complexity, inter-connectivity and global impact. It is increasingly recognized that most of the previous assumptions about solutions for a secure and prosperous future no longer adequately address the immensity of today’s questions. In this thought-provoking and agenda-setting publication, Hazel Henderson, D.Sc.Hon., FRSA, offers a new solution to obsolete frameworks. She advocates a transition to a ‘solar age’ as a pathway to a more green and sustainable economic future.
Henderson’s publication builds on her lifetime of achievements. It lays out a road map advocating a paradigm shift to a new future through a multi-disciplinary approach, integrated systems thinking, and the adoption of new values and innovation, offering a blueprint for a transition to a green economy. It challenges not only existing economic models, but also the definition of resilience, approaches to adaptability, human behavior, and ideas of sustainability. Henderson’s work on new metrics includes indicators on health, education, poverty and environment. Financial crises and subsequent recessions are viewed as breakthroughs in hastening the global transition from the fossil-fueled Industrial Era to a more sustainable ‘solar age’.
