Hazel Henderson Publishes New Book on
Planetary Citizenship
Academy Fellow Hazel Henderson recently published a new book entitled Planetary Citizenship: Your Values, Beliefs, and Actions Can Shape a Sustainable World! The book takes the form of a dialogue between Hazel and Daisaku Ikeda. President of the Soka Gakkai International (SGI), Ikeda is a Buddhist thinker, author and educator who has garnered honorary degrees from 20 universities around the globe and honorary professorships from fourteen.
He believes that only through personal interaction and dialogue across cultural and philosophical boundaries can human beings nurture the trust and understanding that is necessary for lasting peace. Reviews eloquently speak to the book’s mission and contents:

Hazel also informs us that her new television series Ethical Markets Media will appear in the USA on PBS beginning in January, as well as in Brazil. She is also working with prospective partners/licensees in Canada, Brazil, UK, EU, and China’s Shanghai Business Channel.
Hazel’s most recent newsletter summarizes the latest developments in her decades-long battle for corporate responsibility and sustainability. “Greenwashing” and “Bluewashing” are two neologisms that refer to certain corporations that falsely wear the mantle of CSR or the UN’s 10 Principles of Global Corporate Citizenship.
Paul Hawken recently made news by calling on SR funds to dump such equities from their portfolios. He was joined by Academy Fellow Amory Lovins in this effort.
As with the organic food movement in the U.S., corporations have recently become aware of what progressives have known for years, and the times have changed sufficiently for some of them to hatch strategies of co-optation.
Hazel recently called for the UN Global Compact to spin off from the United Nations, that the former might preserve the parent organization’s reputation from “corporate backsliders.”
